Zone Leak Repair Beside a City Sidewalk

The Problem

Water was surfacing along the edge of the sidewalk every time the system ran, and the zone beyond that point was throwing short. The homeowner had already replaced two heads without any improvement, which pointed at the pipe rather than the fittings.

What We Did

Running the zone with the head removed showed the loss was upstream. We opened a short trench along the saturated line and found a longitudinal crack in the lateral where it passed under the walk — almost certainly from settlement and traffic load. The cracked section was cut out and replaced, and the pipe was sleeved where it crosses under the concrete.

The Result

The zone regained full pressure and the sidewalk edge dried out. Sleeving the crossing means the next repair, if there ever is one, will not require breaking concrete.
